WE'VE BEEN SHORTLISTED

Memcom Awards 2025

The Later Life Lending Summit has been shortlisted for Best Event (Non-Celebratory) at the prestigious Memcom Excellence Awards 2025.

Brought to you by the Equity Release Council, in collaboration with the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI)

The later life lending market has never been more in focus. With the FCA’s Mortgage Rule Review – Future of the Mortgage Market sparking debate on how to achieve sustainable homeownership and economic growth, advisers are being challenged to think differently, act decisively, and support customers with more joined-up solutions.

That’s why this year’s Summit marks a pivotal moment. One year after the Council and AMI launched their joint commitment to driving progress, we will unveil a bold new sector-wide initiative:

Working Together: A Sector Action Framework for Later Life Lending

This framework sets out practical actions to raise standards, strengthen partnerships, and ensure customers receive appropriate, holistic advice – no matter where they start their journey.

In the opening fireside chat, CEOs Jim Boyd and Steph Charman will share how the framework was built, highlight areas where work is already underway, and invite the wider sector to join the next phase. With significant regulatory changes on the horizon for 2026, the time to align and act collectively is now.

This isn’t just about what we could do. It’s about what we are doing – together.

Reflecting on the Inaugural Later Life Lending Summit 2024

Held in Sheffield on 19 November 2024, the inaugural Later Life Lending Summit delivered on its promise to offer high-quality education and valuable networking opportunities for professionals across the mortgage and later life lending sectors.

At the heart of the Summit was a shared recognition of advisers’ pivotal role in delivering good outcomes under the new Consumer Duty regime.

Nearly 250 attendees participated in over five hours of structured CPD, accredited by LIBF. The day featured three key interactive sessions:

  1. Lender Lightning Talks – Lenders shared insights into market developments and adviser support
  2. Advice in Action – Real-life case studies prompted discussion on customer needs and product suitability
  3. Designing the Future – A smaller roundtable session explored client communication, regulation, and the role of technology

Attendees also benefited from dedicated networking opportunities, fostering relationships and cross-industry collaboration.

The high level of engagement reflected a collective commitment to evolving later life lending in a way that’s inclusive, responsible, and customer focused.

This adviser-centric event was delivered by the Equity Release Council, in collaboration with the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries, and supported by lead sponsor Adlington Law.

This joint event represents a significant milestone in our collective efforts to promote the benefits of later life lending advice. By working together, we can create a more inclusive and responsive sector designed to serve the ever-changing needs of later life borrowers. At the heart of this is recognising, and celebrating, the crucial role that all advisers play in achieving good outcomes for these customers.

Jim Boyd, CEO of the Equity Release Council

This is what our attendees have to say about the event:

ADVISER
I was not too sure what to expect at my first Equity Release Summit yesterday - but I would fully recommend it - a fantastic day that was both informative and thought provoking, whilst learning from critical friends what the public see and feel about the industry - well done Equity Release Council.

Paul Saroya, Viva Retirement Solutions

PROVIDER
The Later Life Lending Summit in Sheffield brought together a diverse group of professionals from across the industry, creating invaluable opportunities for networking and knowledge sharing. The highlight for us was the engaging breakout sessions, which provided insights and strategies that we can directly apply to our work. The event gave us a renewed sense of purpose to continue understanding and informing consumer needs in later life.

Scott Burman, Pure Retirement

ADVISER
Deciding to attend the Westminster Summit in May 2024 was an easy decision for me to make, after a positive experience at the earlier Manchester summit in November 2023. The later life lending market is expected to move towards a period of significant growth and the Equity Release Council events provide an opportunity for Advisers to increase knowledge and build strong relationships with other Professionals in this sector. I can honestly say that after both Summits I have attended, I have come away with more knowledge and enthusiasm to benefit my business and enhance my skill set. I believe attending this type of event has helped our business immensely and gives us more credibility.

Ian McKinnon, Financial Clarity (Scotland) Ltd

TECH PROVIDER
The Summit surpassed my expectations, and it was great sharing a space with other solution orientated people. The venue was fantastic, with a convenient central London location and the Council team made us feel welcome and supported from the offset. Loved seeing so many familiar faces from the industry, plus of course meeting new people and being able to network throughout the day. The speaker line up was impressive, the sessions informative and topics spot on. Looking forward to the next one already!

Thank you very much for the invitation for us all to attend the Equity Release Summit - we all took away valuable contacts, conversations, and considerations from the sessions themselves and the networking breaks.

George Duffin, Senior Policy Adviser - Mortgages, MH Treasury

SOLICITOR
I am proud to be the lead sponsor at the northern equity release council summit this year.  The Summit provides an excellent opportunity to bring our whole industry together to network and discover an insight into other aspects of the industry which we would not normally see.  Being the first legal provider to headline the summit also raises the importance of the legal industry within our sector, ensuring that both the borrowers and lenders are protected to provide stability and longevity to the market.
